There are intensification of social and political lifestyle that is expressed through his paintings. One of which is the center of this essay’s topic on Family portrait.

Going through with the analysis of the portrait, the observation shows a family, a naked father, mother, and a baby in the portrait. The family is wrapped in clothes, representing a security that calmly surrounds the family. The physical setting of the portrait appears that the family is at the outside in that painting. Other detail is the dark background of the painting, detailing the situation during the early stages of the 19th century. As for the knowledge, the imagery of the painting represents the society, norm, and the situation that was going on during the 19th century. The objects, background, and the family appears to have been neglected, which is a normal scenario for a deprived family during that time. Most countries around the world in that particular era have been suffering from displacement due to incessant conflicts between two or more countries.

Pertaining with the color, the painter utilized a dark background, which represented the environment. The main subject in the portrait is the family that is represented by light colors, which is their skin. The tone of the portrait is smooth with curvy lines, representing the soft spot of the portrait’s emotional message to any audience watching the portrait. As for the subject that is placed at the center of the frame, it depicts about what was going on during the time when it was painted. The main subject in the frame appears to be in a squat position while having a past time or just killing some time in that particular situation that can be just outside from their home according to Schiele (1912).

The function of the object such as the wardrobe is to conceal the naked truth about the impact of experiencing from a bad socio-economic environment. The situation wherein it exposes the body parts of the couple symbolizes hardships in the portrait. This means that the family has been suffering from financial and security instability due to the lack of societal interest to secure the welfare of each household in their community. As for the conclusion, it has been learned that the portrait is a reflection on what will be going on to a society that is experiencing from political instability. If a political situation in a community collapses, all sectors of the government follow and deliver a disastrous outcome, leaving behind households to suffer from scarcity of resources.
