Introduction

Denial is a psychological process wherein a person declines to admit something that has just been done from the past. This is when a person does not want to either verbally or non-verbally commit himself that he or she was involved from an incident that relates from the issues that has been daunting their personal well-being. As a result, this person seems not to have been able to participate to a certain activity that could have been playing an important role to their personal or professional task. This is saddening because there are instances that the person might have not been able to contribute to a group or an individual who is currently conducting an investigation as a way to solve a certain issue. The thought of denying something will prevent anyone from asserting an issue that is critical with their current practice, belief, or culture according to Baron-Cohen (2012).

Denial is an interesting topic because it is always observed in all aspects of life. There are two types of denial that you usually observe, experience, and try it to learn more about new things. On the positive side, you deny something because you want to not hurt that person being involved in a certain issue wherein it is a sensitive scenario. This is the reason why some people deny something to make other individuals feel better. On the opposite side, denial is something that a person should avoid doing it because there are hiding something disturbing. Denial is a critical topic if something goes wrong or not in a normal state. The reason behind is that there are undesirable consequences that a person will undergo with that particular concept. Denying something is like a creating a strong wall that could generate a disturbing scenario, which could affect the relationship between two or more individuals at a certain period.

With regards to the observation in the nursing practice, denial is always observed to the patient in the hospital. At first, they deny all other things about their real medical or psychological condition after the assessment has been applied. This is identified during the assessment process, which reveals the true nature of their medical situation during their medical examination. During the interview process, the patient always denies several things that could conceal their real situation. But after the laboratory test, the real issue will surface with regards to the situation of the patient. These are x-ray result, blood result, and ultrasound results will help the health care providers to know the real condition of the patient’s medical condition. This is basically all about the facts, which is an important issue to determine the real problem of the patient’s health. Doctors will start to formulate new solutions to help solve the medical condition of the patient in the hospital.

As for the nursing literature, the concept of denial is a circumstance wherein it involves all people as well as groups around the world. In the nursing practice, denial is practiced even by the nurses. The reason behind is that they want to work professionally and competitively. Nurses also deny something for the patients so that they will feel more comfortable while being treated in the health care setting. Another issue is about concealing some mistakes during the workplace so that the nurse prevents any risks from gaining demerits at work. Denial plays a role for the head of institutions who wants to conceal something confidential to third parties. This is when confidential information is only disclosed to other involved individuals such as the managers and supervisors. However, these are information that is not disclosed to the regular employees or to the patients according to Pelissolo (2016).

For the concept of nursing process, it is important that denial is a part of the patient’s psychological behavior. Denial is used to hide something because there are major factors that impact the decision of the patient who decided to deny their real condition. Denial is the first stage wherein a person will reject the real condition of their situation such as their body’s medical condition. As a result, they will try to absorb things that make them comfortable until they feel that there is really wrong with their body.  The concept of research is related with the denial process because it seeks to detail the cause and the effect of the denial process that can be used for the research. Investigating the process is also important because it seeks to find out more about the issues that could help to resolve complex problems affecting the medical condition of the patient.

Relevance to the current nursing practice is all about the significance of denial as an issue that should make all practicing nurses. This is because nurses are expected to interact with random patients on a daily basis. Upon the interview process, the concept of denial is always the reason why diagnosis is always affected that should have been an important nursing practice. Learning is important because the nurses will soon realize that experiencing denial is just a part of the job that will enable their professionalism to improve. As a health care professional, having a new room to improve is an important space to elevate the style and the quality of health care service. It is believed that the present is the learning model for the future generations. Nursing is a continuous experience for the nurses and other health care services in order to the future practices to improve according to Mirzamani, et al., (2012).

As for the future nursing practice, the next generation will realize about the effects of denial to the nursing practice. Learning from the present is a luxury that the next generation will be having a better reference for future practices. Documentation from the present generation will be a basis for the future generation to have the chance to improve their practices in the nursing setting. There will be more theoretical concepts that will be discovered and integrated with the current nursing practice as well as for the future. New theoretical concepts that are related with the nursing and other health care applications. Nursing practice becomes more reliable because the present continuously researching about the new insights related with the health care practice that benefits other health care workers. In the future, nursing practice will be more diverse when dealing with the application from the concept of denial by both patients and nurses.

Research is a process wherein there is an investigative process that will be applied in relation to the concept of denial that affects both the patient and the nurse. The first is all about the assessment because denial is affected by several factors whenever it will concern to the condition of the patient. Understanding the concept of denial through research is an efficient way of discovering the nature of denial helps the future generation to improve their assessment process. Nursing is a profession wherein assessment plays an important role to solve any medical anomaly. Confirming the relevance of the new phenomena after research improves the essence of denial process. The concept of denial enables the research helps the process to be well-understood by the members of the health care department. This will let the future generation to appreciate the efforts made by the past generation, which is today according to Sirri & Fava (2013).

Researchers provide their theoretical definition of the concept. This depends on the topic that they will be investigating in order to strengthen the credibility of their research. Providing theoretical definition ensures that the reliability of the process becomes more reliable and improves the essentiality of the research. There are several theoretical concepts that enable the researchers to ensure that there are other factors that can affect the meaning and the process of research. Providing additional information is a resourceful way to integrate other issues that can impact the relationship of the research process. The true meaning of denial can become more realistic as well as improve the meaning of the word that can further apply it by other health care professionals not only by the nursing professionals. Research will continue to find new issues and phenomena that enable the process to become more reliable with the future generation of health care professionals such as the nurses and the doctors.

It is important to know that denial is always applied by other individual or group. We always consider that denying all issues that could help us improve our environment can be regarded as either beneficial or traumatic. If it is beneficial, this is due to the fact that there is concealment that protects our psychological integrity. But on the other side, the traumatic experience is when we know more about the truth. Patients want to deny their true medical condition because they are afraid that their life becomes miserable. However, hiding your real medical facts to health care professionals could further affect their health as well as degrading their true relationship in the future as mentioned by Rayson (2013).
