Religion and Theology

Introduction

This paper aims to discuss a religious view regarding Abraham’s showing faith in the sacrifice of Isaac as evidenced by how he obeyed God without question, and willingness to sacrifice his only son as a test of his faith. In this case, it seeks to conduct an in-depth analysis on whether Abraham is technically considered a person who committed an immoral act for justifying his faith by taking his son’s life. The main issue in this case is all about the will of Isaac, which is the person of interest by Abraham as a way for him to consider his faith as a righteous practice to determine his alliance with the creator. Taking other people’s life to portray justification could mean that Abraham is at risk for misconduct due to his sacrificial act against the will of his son, Isaac according to Liu (2007).

This discussion concentrates on the person’s morality when taking into account regarding the issues contemplating on their religious belief.  In this case, Abraham did not made second thoughts about his decision to make a sacrifice in order to prove his religious affiliation to his chosen faith. This is a one-sided perception because Abraham thought that his decision is the right way to follow his faith by taking other person’s life. One concerning thing is about his relationship of his targeted person to be sacrificed, which is a person that is close to his hear. The problem in this situation is the issue regarding the sacrifices brought about by the imperative view of a person’s belief that is willing to sacrifice anything in order to prove their alliance to a certain religious practice. Isaac may have been already sacrificed, but his will and perception was not critically understood whether he accepted what his father had done towards him just to prove his faith as related by Fischer (2007).

Isaac may not forgive Abraham because he might be more interested in living his life to become like his father someday. However, if Isaac only knew that his father chose him to be sacrificed by being killed in the future, there will be fear, intimidation, violence, and coercion on Isaac’s part. If Isaac may realize that he is in a great danger, he would be able to fight his dad who chose him as his sacrificial lamb just to honor his faith. This is because Isaac’s ambition will be over once that his father will be successful for executing him. The moral of the story is all about the association of commandments by the Christian faith, which states that though shall not take away against other people’s lives, which means that any person have no right to plot an immoral act of killing other individual such as Isaac or groups.

The learning insight of this paper is all about the moral principle that a person should always consider. Given the nature of ethical and moral principles, Isaac’s traumatic experience will prompt his decision not to forgive his father if he effectively defended himself. However, if his father successfully murdered him in order to honor his faith to the Lord, his dreams, plans, and willingness to become somebody will never happen in the future because he will be forever gone when he was successfully executed by his father. If his father successfully sacrificed the life of Isaac, he is guilty of violating the commandment of the Bible, prompting him to be sent to Satan’s lair and not to heaven. This means that Abraham’s sacrificial purpose is not acceptable under the eyes of the Lord because he is taking away his son’s life that is full of dreams and ambition according to Kalimi (2010).
