Reflecting on an issue or problem in nursing practice
Introduction
In the nursing practice, evidenced-based practice concerns with the theoretical application is important for the nurses to ensure that they provide a high-quality health care practice. This paper will be concentrating on a nursing practice wherein it seeks to discuss the significance of establishing an effective interpersonal communication with the patient by using questions. This includes what is the importance of interpersonal communication, how to apply interpersonal communication, and is communication only applies to patient. The two other question is to how communication is applied during the intervention process and what can you compare it with other therapeutic intervention applied to the patient. The purpose of the question is to relate the target the goal of the research as it applies to the PICO nursing care plan that is associated with the patient, intervention, comparison, and outcome.
As part of the literature review of this paper, it seeks to correlate with the application of behavioral theoretical approach in the health care setting. Interpersonal communication is closely relevant to behavioral norms and practices of an individual or a professional in their respective careers. The psychological well-being of a person affects their interactive mechanism towards other individuals, especially when they seek to express their opinion or to engage in a position wherein information are being interrogated in order to satisfy one’s curiosity and inquisitiveness. For the patient, interpersonal communication renders trust and cooperation with the nurse, which is empowered by their behavioral well-being if they feel comfortable with the environment, people, and situation. As for the nurse, the emotional theorem applied in this manner is the close association with confidence towards the patient. Being confident elicits a practice wherein the nurse are able to master a certain process wherein they know therapeutic techniques to improve nurse-to-patient relationship in the clinical setting (Lundy, 2014).
As for the application of interpersonal communication for the Patient that comes first in the PICO process, it deals with the establishment of therapeutic communication process. Patient is the most important person where it concentrates on their emotional integrity by means of initiating the nursing care plan through communication. Establishing rapport is the initial application of this process by introducing identities and explaining the procedures to establish trust and cooperation so that the assessment process will be applied. During the intervention phase, the application of interpersonal communication utilizes nursing intervention process to ensure that the physiological needs of the patient are always met. As for the nurse, application of a sound psychological well-being is based on the ability to comply with the rules and regulations with professionalism and dignity. Discipline is the most important concept for every professional to apply because it can easily generate trust and motivation with other individuals.
Comparing the recent interventions takes time to review previously accomplished interventions being done to the patient by engaging rapport with other health care providers. Patients are encouraged to verbalize their feedbacks regarding the ongoing intervention to compare the past and the present prognosis of the patient to determine areas that still needs to be treated. In this case, the trust and rapport is still applicable while the rehabilitation activity is still taking place with the patient. After necessary treatments and therapeutic interventions are applied to the patient, it is time to reveal the outcome of the procedure. This involves if the prognosis either went successful or needs improvement. This is to prompt health care providers to review recently accomplished procedures to determine if it went efficiently and accurately for the health care providers to continue with the efficient management of having a therapeutic relationship with the patient in the hospital (Conti-Ramsden, 2012).
The evidenced based practiced can be based from the methodological process of the nursing care plan, which is an important part of discussing the research topic and answering the main statement along with the questions using the PICOT guideline model. In scientific-based practice, exploratory method is the most applicable procedure to seek first-hand information that can be taken from the patient’s health care. The tools that will be used for the analysis will be the sampling method, which will be conducting an interview for at least a minimum of 10 actual patients, who have been involved with the research process. It seeks to determine the number of patients who commented positive scores for promoting interpersonal communication during their hospital confinement. The numbers will be discussed on the analysis and the discussion portion of the research study in relation with its relevance to nursing intervention in the clinical setting (Weber, 2014).
Implication
Reflecting on an issue or a problem in nursing practice is important when conducting an evidence-based practice used in the research discussion. The main reason is to utilize the essentials of expounding scientific experimentation and application to confirm the relevance of a scientific practice to the research. The PICOT model is an important guideline in formulating a nursing-based research, which has been indicated from the above discussion, citing a certain relevant therapeutic application to patients in need of medical intervention. In order to strengthen the discussion’s arguments, the evidence-based practices are supported with peer-reviewed journals or publications. This is to relate the recent discussions and experimentations that increase the level of validity and creativity of the paper. Since nursing is the main concentration of the essay’s discussion, scientific-based references are preferred because it seeks to correlate with other published articles with similar interests such as in the medical field.
