Others // Anti-immigrant Fever
I. Summary and Working Thesis: As for the working thesis, the purpose of the paper is to explore the “anti-immigrant fever” that is currently impacting the American society. This is due to Trump’s sensational political ideology that has now been causing a concern to several US citizens across the United States. Immigrants are the most affected minority group because they have been targeted by the Trump administration by risking their citizenship status in the United States. It seeks to find out the goals of “anti-immigrant ideologies” that are now causing a concern to the American society since Donald Trump is elected as the new President of the United States. In addition, this paper will be identifying the possible benefits that can be applied from the emergence of “anti-immigrant fever” as fueled by the new executive order, banning Muslims from the selected countries who want to enter the United States.
With regards to the summary of the paper, Donald Trump’s win was an unexpected scenario during the latest American national elections. The US National election that was just held on November made a startling result, shocking millions of voters in the United States. The world was also shocked to know that the Republicans won the election after 8 years of being dominated by the Democratic Political Party since 2008. Many thought that the Democrats will win the elections; however, it turns the other way around. Hilary Clinton then accepted her defeat and decided to concede the race, paving the way for Donald Trump to enjoy the victory as the new and official President of the United States. After the US National Election, any rejoiced for knowing that their candidate won the presidency, which is Donald Trump. On the other hand, supporters of the Democrats, representing Hilary Clinton’s liberal followers were obviously not happy about the result.
Going through with the “anti-immigrant” policies of Donald Trump under his executive order, one major minority group has been directly affected by the order. These are the Muslim as the sole minority group being the subject of segregation by the Federal government of the United States. Donald Trump is concerned that the minority groups across the United States could cause security concerns throughout the country. In this case, the minority groups living in the United States fear that their citizenship status is under scrutiny by the immigration department of the United States. Since the executive order has been applied and implemented by the Federal government, it is expected that there will be more rules that will be announced, citing similar goals towards Muslim minority groups. This ruling might last for at least four years until Donald Trump will end his term as the President of the United States of America (Papadopoulos, p. 32).
Anti-immigrant fever started when terrorism sparked in early 1990’s. During this decade, the threats made by several terrorist groups from other parts of the world initially ordered their comrades and followers against the United States. The threat was just ignored during the presidencies of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. But on the 11th of September in 2001, the unexpected scenario came into a reality. The United States did not expect that the terrorist groups were actually very serious and made numerous plans to terrorize the United States for several years. The years of ignoring the threats made the United States vulnerable to future terrorist attacks. Since the attack in the West Coast such as in Manhattan, the Pentagon, and in Washington, District of Columbia, the United States then immediately formed a new agency to combat future terrorist attacks to protect the country from similar threats in the near future.
The Homeland Security Commission was then established to conduct an investigation regarding the issue of terrorism across the United States. This is to create another barrier to future threat that will prevent casualties, coercion, and intimidation to the American people. After a thorough investigation, the United States’ intelligence agencies confirmed that there is one minority group that poses the greatest threat to the United States. It has been found out that the Muslim Minority groups and its allied members are responsible for planning an attack against the United States. Al Qaeda was the first group with the greatest threat. But now, ISIS is the new terror group who took over to threaten the United States’ security. Muslims were responsible for provoking fear and harm against the United States by repeatedly waging war against the western societies. This means that any nations who had an alliance with the United States are also at risk with future terrorist threats (Gould & Klor, p. 3).
Another issue is the continued influx of undocumented immigrants coming from the Latin American region concerns the United States’ security policy. Latin American migrants from both South and Central America are rushing their paths to reach the land of the golden promises, such as jobs, new home, new people, and friends that could help them become productive in the United States. The United States has been seen as the land of promise by most Latinos living below the poverty line as the only solution to improve their socio-economic status. By going to the United States, their lives will significantly improve by being employed by a decent job, helping their family away from poverty, and to help their relatives to improve their socio-economic lifestyle as well. The avenue of opportunities in the United States makes Latinos as the most number of minorities in the United States than any other minority groups.
The problem observed from Latinos is the immense drug trade, causing another security concern in the United States. Latin America is the number one producers of coca, a key ingredient to generate methamphetamine hydrochloride that is simply known as shabu. This product is extremely dangerous to any individual ingesting or inhaling this substance because it affects the psychological integrity of an individual. Drug trafficking is one of the most serious issues in the United States due to the influx of traffickers who comes to the United States to establish illegal trade across the State. Drug trade is responsible for causing a person’s emotional well-being to become aggressive, which is a key factor for allowing the person to commit a grave misconduct. Violence and criminal activities are blamed for the use of cocaine and other prohibited substances in the United States, deteriorating the health and the mental well-being of users as well as the distributors of the illegal drug trade.
Aside from the illegal drug trade, drug cartels are group of mafias in Mexico and other parts of Latin America are considered as high risk for the security of the United States. Drug cartels are criminal gangs operating in Latin America and other parts of the United States. They are highly organized criminal groups responsible for initiating illegal activities that pose a threat in the United States. Aside from the illegal drug trade, human trafficking is another illegal practice committed by drug cartels, which is one of the reasons why Donald Trump wants to ban illegal migrants crossing the borders with the United States without proper documents. Illegal migrants trafficked by drug cartels may soon become a liability for the United States and then pose a threat to other US citizens whenever they reached the United States and establish criminal activities such as violence (Art, p. 288).
The most concerning issue is all about the propagation of terrorism by ISIS militants and other terrorist groups interested in attacking the United States through the acts of terrorism. These are Islamist militants based in the Middle East responsible for spreading the practice of mass destruction. This is due to their ideology regarding the essentials of Jihad, which has been responsible for causing a mass array of genocide across the Middle Eastern countries. Iraq, Syria, and Libya are the most affected parts of the Middle Eastern societies. They are followed by Afghanistan, Somalia, and Egypt, which is penetrated by the Islamist militants such as ISIS, Al Qaeda, and other Islamist militants in the Middle East. The most concerning part is that Jihadists and extremist are able to brainwash several Americans to become lone wolves to propagate harm within the vicinity of the United States and other western countries around the world (Avdan, p. 445).
Iran is a separate case that also concerns the Trump administration because it is a state wherein it coincides with North Korea, China and Russia. Anti-immigrant policies have been ordered to prevent the second-world countries from spying against the United States. China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran are the four remaining countries who are still practicing a serious case of promoting socialist and communist ideologies, making it the reason why they are being referred as the second-world countries. The second world countries object the principles of the first world countries because they prefer Marxism and autocratic leadership styles. Banning immigrants from Iran prevents spies from entering the United States, which could leak confidential information about the security policies of the United States. The United States has been the most resilient first world country, which has the most advanced nuclear technology, envying the second world countries such as Russia, China, North Korea, and Iran.
The above mentioned facts and actual incidents were committed by immigrants, causing an alarm towards the Federal government of the United States and its allies from other parts of the world. Donald Trump condemns all attackers responsible for provoking mass destruction in his homeland by both extremists and the spies from the second world countries. He believes that the Department of Homeland Security’s efforts are not enough to contain security risks propagated by immigrants coming to the United States. Donald Trump is furious about the escalating security threat that tries to cause intimidation to the American citizens. As a result, his anti-immigrant policies by blocking several Muslim countries entering the United States will temporarily prevent future threats to the United States. He understands that there are negative consequences with regards to this anti-immigrant policies will be able to ensure that their security policies will contain security threats across the United States in the near future.
The beneficial effect of Trump’s anti-illegal policies is to control future threats that could prevent any issues of intimidation, coercion, and violence. Trump believes that his ban on Muslim will shut down the most serious threat, which is the advancement of ISIS militants towards the United States. Anti-immigrant policies will also control illegal crossing of its borders against the Latinos and other nationalities that are entering the United States without proper documents. Population control becomes more efficient because demographical statistics will be surveyed accurately on a regular basis across the United States. Illegal drug trade coming from the Latin American countries will also be controlled with the implementation of anti-immigrant law and phenomenon because border patrol agencies and the anti-drug campaigners can easily apprehend carriers of illegal drugs. Human trafficking will also benefit from this provision because it can gradually prevent traffickers from victimizing migrants crossing across the US-Mexican borders (Hughey, p. 164).
The negative consequences that can be influenced by the implementation of anti-immigrant policy are about the issue of discrimination as well as segregation. It is clear that the policy generated a series of hate crimes across the United States. US citizens started to chant discriminatory remarks against immigrants who became the subject of bullying at school and in the workplace. Employment discrimination becomes rampant as employers with a conservative principle start to prevent immigrants from being employed. Creation of neo-supremacist groups are also on the rise due to Trump’s conservative policies against immigrants. New neo-supremacist groups such as the descendants of Ku Klux Klan are now expanding across the United States, creating another series of threat against minority groups who are struggling for acceptance by the American Federal government. If Trump creates similar anti-immigrant policies in the future, there will be an increased number of hate crimes towards migrants living and working across the United States of America (Oxx, p. 2).
Trump’s anti-discrimination dilemma is a serious case because it causes rampant hate crimes that can further develop over time. The existing anti-immigrant policy will result to more conservative policies that will be ordered in the future. Immigration policies will shun foreign nationals who want to live and work to the United States. Foreigners will prefer to search for other countries to fulfill their dreams of seeking for a greener pasture. Anti-immigration policies will soon influence lawmakers to repeal existing laws that protects minority groups. This includes existing laws that protects the members of LGBT (Lesbians, Gays, Bisexual, and Transgender) communities, laws that protects racial discrimination, and employment related laws. Anti-immigration laws endanger other existing laws that protect minorities because Donald Trump wants to preserve American patriotism by creating new laws that will better provide more opportunities to American citizens rather than the immigrants (Dodani & La Porte, p. 488).
