Introduction
This paper aims to discuss the essentials of a current event, specifically about discrimination. The article is all about Walmart’s Locking up of certain beauty products from African-Americans. The article was written and published by Sandra E. Garcia on the 30th of January in 2018. As a summary, the article indicates that Ms Grundy felt humiliated and embarrassed when she came to Wal-Mart to buy a cosmetic product. She was shocked that there were cosmetic products intended for African-Americans are locked up inside the glass door. She was also asked to register the product first before purchasing it. When she asked the managers why these products are locked, they responded for security reasons. Ms. Grundy then filed a legal complaint against Wal-Mart for racial discrimination in three different occasions.
The main point of the article is pointing towards racial discrimination in a public shopping outlet in the United States. The plaintiff is an African-American woman who experienced at least three counts of discrimination in Wal-Mart. This is the first time that she felt humiliated by the store. Ms. Grundy was an avid regular shopper of Wal-Mart. It was just this time that she observes that her favorite department, which is the cosmetics section. Ms. Grundy believes that it is not the only her who has been discriminated in the area. As per constitutional issue, this violates the Fourth Amendment, which is concentrated on the rights of man. Discrimination of any kind is considered as a punishable offense. The situation in Wal-Mart indicates that the incident can be related to a discriminative issue that has been degrading the welfare and the image of a certain group.
As for the author’s position, it shows a controversial topic with regard to a discriminative nature of an individual. In this case, the application of this illegal practice can significantly impact the welfare of a person that is involved with a certain practice that can face legal consequences. This means that the author is portraying an incident that is in favor of the African-American girl that has been indirectly discriminated by the store. As for my own position of the recent controversy, it has been learned that the issue is relevant to our way of protecting our society by means of defending our basic rights. This means that I am in favor of the African-American’s side by trying to challenge Walmart’s decision to file a case. This is because no one should be deprived of their racial profile by anyone who is trying to degrade their dignity.
Minority groups such as African-Americans, Asians, Latinos, and Middle Eastern has the right to waive their equal rights to the public. In the case of the article’s main discussion, it represents a disturbing fact on how a certain individual has been involved in an unacceptable act for having their dignity discriminated by a well-known institution. As for the concept, this is related to the violation of a human right. The main reason is that the act of indirectly implicating a degrading scenario will be causing a scandalous consequence on the part of the store owner. The legal theoretical implication is related to the ability of a person to utilize legal means to file for a legal sanction because it significantly caused a psychological damage to the victim (Garcia, 2018).
