Read the Instructions: Using The Sociological Perspectives: What are your goals?
The establishment of research in sociology has been a necessary condition of the establishment of the discipline itself. Contemporarily, sociologists have taken a significant part in the growth of understanding the social problems that exist in society – that is, by way they conceptualize and explain problems genesis. And in the outline of broad sociological approaches – functionalist, conflict, and interactionist – the contexts and core theory of each of these approaches highlight the consequences of looking at the order and changes experiencing by society and individual.
Functionalist Approaches have conquered the social problems ground for most of the century. In the field of social problems, functionalism has also been recognized by other terms, including social pathology and social inadequacy. This approach signify a belief that a “social problem can be defined in functional term as a form of behaviour or as a condition that impedes the fulfilment of societal goals, interferes with the smooth functioning of society and throws society into disequilibrium (Glass, 1991, p.26).” At the level of social system, this attribute to the causes of a social problem to a collapse in the typically dynamic symmetry of the pieces of the system due to social change. Consequently, at the individual level, the origins of difficult behaviour are recognized to ineffective or unsuitable socialization, or disjuncture between objectives and the opportunity to achieve them. If the problem is identified as systematic in sport being the model, the resolution proposed is to bring back into equilibrium the parts of the game system that are out of line. If the spotlight is on players’ misconduct, the resolution presented is ethical education.

Conflict theory stressed the weight of assessment consensus in society, and conflict is recognized to conquest temporarily as counteracted in society becomes better. In contrary, Marxism clearly identified conflict approach as sociological theory which see society in terms of different groups with asymmetrical access to affluence, economic and political control, and consider those with the least capital and authority as estranged and detached. As such, this isolation is seen as the catalyst for the creation of social conflicts, and this conflict is seen as a continuing and persistent and not temporary. As people viewed in television and other communication media, society changes is evolving around the sociological approaches. In Marx’s view, society operates largely in the course of class conflict. Particularly, he argues that capitalistic culture the bourgeoisie and the proletariat are deeply opposed and that Marx believes that existent capital was only produced by the labor control of the workers (Glass, 1991).
According to Glass (1991), interactionist approach take the target’s perception rather than purpose conditions as the preliminary point for a breakdown of social problems, and spotlight on how society and individual identify circumstances, persons or events as conflict. In addition, they share the assumption that social problems emerge through social interaction as functionalist and conflict has too defined – such that the natural history of such problems is uncertain and contingent. Thus, this approach concerned with development rather than structure and significance rather causality.
Thus far, these theoretical approaches impart different characters and principles to which they stand in accordance to resolution and approaching of social problems. The value of the interactionist is that, it draws consideration to the evolving character of social problems and the function of social interaction in such emergence. While, conflict highlights the role of structural factors in the making of social problems and stresses the consequence of conflicts of interest between social groups with conflicting amounts of power. Lastly, functionalist recognizes the emphasis on a normative and value consensus to which norms and values are bound up with differing material interests of various social groups.
